The Stroke Association is the only charity solely concerned with helping everyone affected across the UK. Their vision is to have a world where there are fewer strokes and all those touched by stroke get the help they need. The Stroke Association can only provide life-changing support and research with your help.

Please help support The Stroke Association's vital work by sponsoring David online. Just visit http://fundraising.stroke.org.uk/dtennant . All donations are secure and sent directly to The Stroke Association.  4TH EUROPEAN SHORTSEA CONGRESS
 HAMBURG CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, HAMBURG

 29-30 JUNE 2011

The European Shortsea Congress
has established itself as the definitive and premier gathering for the shortsea industry. Previous events have attracted audiences of around 200 senior people representing retailers, buyers of shortsea transport, shippers, receivers, shortsea carriers (liquid-bulk, dry-bulk, feeders, shortsea containers, vehicle, barge), logistics providers, ports & terminals and a range of service providers.
The 2011 Congress will be held in Hamburg 29-30 June where we will be guests of the German shipping community. Such is the importance of this Congress that we have been afforded the honour of a reception at the Hamburg Rathaus hosted by Representative of the Senate, State Secretary Mr Peter Wenzel. In addition, we have been allowed to hold our conference at the prestigious Hamburg Chamber of Commerce in the very centre of the city.
The Congress comprises a full two-day conference enhanced by numerous networking events including the centre-piece of every Shortsea Congress – the conference dinner. This year, the dinner will be held onboard a cruise boat and delegates will be treated to a tour of the Port of Hamburg.
The European Shortsea Congress is the only event of its kind where senior representatives from shortsea users, carriers, ports, logistics providers and the whole range of service providers meet to debate the topical issues of the day and also to network and further business opportunities.

International Supply Chain Forum Meeting

Freight by Water have organised this annual meeting. The purpose of this is for those involved with the various mode shift grant regimes the chance to provide feedback on their effectiveness to a key European body that is looking at reviewing them.

The European Court of Auditors (ECA) are considering carrying out a study on the efficiency and effectiveness of the Marco Polo programmes. As part of their assessment, they are keen to get the impressions and experience from people that use the programmes in practice. They also wish to talk about national grant regimes (such as FFG or MSRS) and policies that have been putting in place to support industry in shifting traffic from roads to other modes.

The aim of such work would be to formulate recommendations for EU grant rules and programmes from 2013 onwards.

To fit with this session, FBW will give the day a mode shift focus - discussions on where we are on mode shift and what needs to be done next from a UK point of view.
