To our Valued Customers,
Further to our announcement on 14th November, we regret to inform that there is still no settlement on strike talks. The stevedores have been in protest since November 5, demanding the integration of all temporary workers to the official workforce.
The strike halted dozens of ships and suspended national exports. The stevedores continue to refuse to work, while Operestiva (Empresa de Trabalho Portuario de Setubal) does not sign permanent contracts with all 90 precarious. The company is only available to integrate 30 workers.
MacAndrews have tried to ensure minimal impact to your business with continued Setubal calls, despite the delays, at a major increase in costs to the line. However, the situation has deteriorated and the port remains closed. Therefore, we have no choice but to cancel the Setubal call until further notice.
Unfortunately, the Line will not be able to subsidise any House collections or deliveries previously routed via Setubal, over the port of Leixões. Any additional expense to be agreed in advance and undertaken by the Customers.
Any further updates will be communicated as and when further developments are known.
Should you need any clarification please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your continued support.
